In reply to <a href="https://www.plantub.co.nz/boxseat/#comment-3214">Rob Gray</a>.

Hi Rob,
Many thanks for your enquiry.

The timber is macrocarpa (which is naturally resistant to water). The lids are painted 3 x coats of waterproof paint inside and outside, and the outside of the BoxSeat also has 3 x coats of waterproof paint. Any ‘micro-gaps’ around all the edges (of the lid and the main box) are filled before painting giving a completely waterproof seal to all the panels (on the lid as well as the main box). If used in areas of exposed weather, rain may pool in the lid panels during very heavy rain, but opening the lid once will remove this surface water. All of the interlocking tongue and groove boards (in the lid as well as the main box) are also glued into deep grooves surrounding both the box frame as well as the lid further adding to the waterproofing characteristics. The insides are left as natural timber (which has a pleasant natural aroma when you open the lid)

So, if the BoxSeat is positioned somewhere exposed to the elements, water may congregate in the lid recesses (during heavy rain) but a simple lifting of the lid will clear this. The design and construction of the lid will mean that no water will egress into the box compartment.

My BoxSeats are made to the highest standards of cabinet making craftsmanship, and I've been making them (just by myself ) for over 20 years.

I look forward to hearing whether you'd like to proceed with an order?

Please give me a call if you'd like a chat about any other issues?

Kind regards

Steve

Hi, we’re interested in the extra large box seat for our deck in Shelly Park, Auckland. The deck is uncovered so we wanted to confirm whether the box seat is suitable for such an environment. From the pictures it looks like there’s also potential for water to pool on the top. Keen to get your feedback. Thanks, Rob
